100 years of BMW Group
by Stage Kinetik
The future is for those bold enough to shape it
-BMW Group 2016-
BMW celebrated its 100th anniversary in a spectacular show in the Munich Olympic Hall in March 2016.
The audience was deeply astonished by the show which was especially designed by Show Creator, Show Director and Media Artist Andrée Verleger. A new VLS system comprising a technical novelty in connection with light and spheres provided for a unique atmosphere.
880 winches and LED-illuminated spheres with a size of 40 centimeters
Different scenarios could be represented in a unique way, by means of the sphere system comprising 880 winches, to which LED-illuminated spheres with a size of 40 centimeters were attached. This "kinetic ballet of spheres" enabled the visualization of different shapes and movements and to illuminate them in various colors.
As a the 2 millimeter wide rope of the winch was too small to establish a common power and signal transmission, a system comprising a battery and a DMX radio receiver was designed. Thus, it was not only possible to move each sphere individually, but also to change the color of all 880 spheres independently or to switch the spheres on or off. The control of the spheres was affected by means of a programmable lighting control desk.
Beside the kinetic ballet of spheres, further features were used during the show as well.
Thus, 3 carbon tube screens, which were each covered with an 8.5 meter wide and almost 20 meter high fabric, were used. They could be winded and unwinded during the show in order to enable various projections.
Artists were attached to 3 winches for their artistic performance and could be raised and lowered during the show at a speed of up to 3m/sec and a maximum lifting height of 18 meters. Industrial robot arms were each equipped with an 85" plasma screen and provided for another highlight of the show by interactively integrating artists and video technology.
For the introduction part of the show, a moving lifting device was developed, which was installed below the stage. It facilitated the raising and lowering of the lectern in order to make it disappear from the stage.

The highlight on stage were 16 rotating LED walls, a moving LED wall and 2 turntables
Stage Kinetik provided state-of-the-art technology for the IAA 2015. On the occasion of the presentation of new Mercedes products in Festhalle Messe Frankfurt, we have installed 16 rotating LED walls with a height of 9 meters and a width of 3 meters each and a moving LED wall, which served as a scanner moving along on a track in front of the rotating walls.
Under the stage floor, a steel frame including a Movimot drive was installed below each of the rotating walls. Electricity and data were supplied by means of an energy chain, which was attached to the supporting frame of the LED wall in such as way as it could be turned by 360° in every direction.
2 further LED walls, which each had a width of 4.5 meters, a height of 9 meters and a weight of approximately 3500 kilograms, were installed in front of the 16 rotating walls. A heavy-weight track was used as a guide track. The walls were prevented from tipping over by means of a guiding track which was installed at the upper end of the moving LED walls. In addition, 2 turntables were used with 6 meters in diameter for the presentation.
VW Group Night at the IAA 2015
by Stage Kinetik
Of course, Volkswagen participated in the International Motor Show, which was held from 15 September to 27 September 2015 in Frankfurt, and took advantage to interactively present several product innovations during the Group Night.
Core of the stage were 4 large projection-surfaces and 6 turntables
4 large projection-surfaces, which were each 7 meters high and up to 12 meters wide, were located in the background of the stage. They were each moved using 2 EHB drives at a speed of 1m/sek. The projection-surfaces were suspended 7 meters off the rig. They were used both for the presentation of new features and for the visualisation of several backgrounds.
Furthermore, Stage Kinetik moved 4 VMK 500 type chain hoists for a brand logo. 6 turntables were installed in the stage floor. 3 of them had a diameter of 6 meters each and the other 3 turntables had a diameter of 5 meters each.
9 Movecat entertainment winches were used for a movable safety net
Moreover, 9 Movecat entertainment winches were used for a movable safety net, which was installed for safety reasons above the audience during the flight of a fully automatic drone system. The control was affected using the Movecat controller and using the SKV control system each via Timecode.
The unique motion technology from Stage Kinetik took care that all these kinetic elements turned into an optical highlight for the spectators. The planning and the technical management was delivered by FILMTEC.

An LED lifting wall system opening in a few seconds
We have developed and built an LED lifting wall system for Porsche's press conference held at the IAA fair 2015. For this purpose, a part of an LED wall was lowered by some millimeters and moved to the side. Then, it was tilted back and lifted behind the upper part of the LED wall by means of 2 winches.
2 winches and a door with a weight of approximately 2000 kilograms
After a vehicle has passed the door with a weight of approximately 2000 kilograms, the lifting door was closed again in reverse order. The opening and closing of the door only took a few seconds.
Eurovision Song Contest 2015
by Stage Kinetik
The 60th Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) was held this year in Vienna on the 23rd of May. The opening ceremony already was a goosebumps moment for example due to the breathtaking light show. Last year's winner Conchita Wurst opened the finale with the motto song of this year's ESC, "Building Bridges".
Kinetic ballet of spheres installed above the audience using 629 winches
The kinetic ballet of spheres consisted of a matrix of 37x17 spheres, which were individually hung of on a winch. Each sphere was filled with approx. 800 grams of rape to prevent the ropes from sagging when quickly lowering them. The winches were attached to a 10.2 meters deep and about 29 meters wide truss square. The center sphere row could be moved along an EHB track so an aerial system could be moved through the kinetic ballet of spheres on which last year's winner Conchita Wurst was flown during the show. Conchita even visited our pre-assembly hall in Castrop-Rauxel for a test flight.
Aerial system with SIL3 for "Conchita Wurst"
The aerial system consisted of 2 MoveCat winches which were hung on 3 EHB heavy-load trolleys. The ropes of the winches were aligned by using 4 pulleys in such a way that the 2 ropes were led downwards to connect to a specially fabricated variable flying bracket. From the flying bracket, two additional ropes were attached to the aerial harness in which Conchita was flown.
Movable LED wall with a total length of 26.4 meters
In the rear area of the stage, 2 moving LED walls was located, which was also hung on an EHB track. The were 13.2 meters wide and 9 meters high on each side. 2 static LED walls with a width of 4.2 meters each were installed at a distance of only 25 centimeters in front of it. The entire visible LED surface was thus 313 square meters and the weight including motion technology was more than 9500 kilograms.
